FAQ
What type of massage do you do?
Many of my regular clients have described my work as a healing art form in a category apart from anything they've experienced with other massages. Because of this distinction, I prefer the term bodywork, over "massage". Verbiage does the physical experience of bodywork no justice, but to satisfy the question; I begin a session by tuning in and assessing your body's current condition before allowing it's own subtle cues and intuition to guide me to do whatever is necessary in order to restore balance and help create a healthy and healing state of being. Most often, this involves light palpation and general warming of the tissues through manipulation and myofacial release techniques are employed. By this point, a silent but very important dialogue has begun. From here until the last moment of contact, your body will be telling me what it needs me to do. As the muscles and surrounding fascia become warmer and soften, more precise areas of blocked energy (or trigger points) are revealed. (This is usually when the recipient exclaims, "that's exactly the spot!") After finding the "spots", I use varying degrees of pressure ranging from mild to very deep, depending on how the body responds and what the client prefers in order to alleviate all areas of concern. Sessions are brought to a close with joint mobilization and passive stretching to allow the recipient to feel how the work has calmed and enhanced the vitality of the entire body. Please keep in mind that every treatment has many variables and these descriptions are only a general overview. Although many of my signature moves have been captured in the video, it is hardly a complete picture of the work I perform.
How did you get into this line of work?
I believe without question that it was one of my callings in life. I've been fascinated with the human body and how it works ever since I was a child. I spent hours being entranced by a medical book containing full color transparent overlays of human anatomy and was very familiar with the body and all of its systems at an early age. Also, my father worked as a caretaker and it's apparent that I've inherited his calm spirit and gentle nature. While I was in college, I had the fortune of meeting a massage teacher who was so impressed with my curiosity and eagerness to learn that she took me under her wing and taught me all that she could. It wasn't long before I began working in the field and after graduating college, I completed a yearlong certification program. Almost nine years later, I am every bit as enthusiastic and excited about the work as when I began.
Why don't you have a testimonials section?
Throughout my career, I've received so many wonderful and heartfelt reviews that I feel it would be vainglorious to post them here. Although it's an honor to receive such praise, I'd rather let you decide for yourself. As stated before, nearly all of my clients come through word of mouth recommendation and I believe the best testimonials are those you hear directly from someone you know and trust.
Why do you prefer 90 minute+ appointments?
In my experience, an hour is simply not enough time to achieve the level of relief that I intend to produce for you. Anyone who has had a massage knows how quickly the time flies when you're on the table. If time management is an issue, consider the amount you are saving by having me travel to you. It takes less than five minutes total to set up and pack away my massage table.
